This pioneering initiative combines a global survey with open-source analysis using big data and AI to help professionals develop their skills in technology monitoring and strategic intelligence in the AI era
The 21st ALTEC International Conference 2025, held from September 30 to October 3 in Santiago, Chile, was the stage for the official launch of Monitor-i: an international research and transfer project created to assess and strengthen how organizations use technology monitoring and strategic intelligence in the age of AI disruption.
Led by the University of Alicante (Spain) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the project brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers and experts in innovation, strategic information management, and data science, with the Latin Ibero-American Association for Technology Management and Innovation (ALTEC) as a strategic partner.
The idea behind Monitor-i

In a world where artificial intelligence is reshaping how organizations search for information, analyze data, and make decisions, Monitor-i was created to address the lack of standardized and comparable data on how organizations apply technology monitoring and strategic, competitive, and market intelligence—while also integrating data science.
Its goal is to provide accurate insights, best practices, and emerging trends that help organizations make better decisions, train their teams in these key competencies, and design evidence-based public and corporate policies. In doing so, Monitor-i aims to strengthen the professional development of these practices in an environment increasingly defined by digital transformation and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on business.
What it will bring
Monitor-i is the first Ibero-American initiative to combine the measurement of technology monitoring maturity with data analysis and artificial intelligence, taking a cross-cutting approach to innovation. Its aim is to strengthen innovation ecosystems, making them smarter, more collaborative, and more sustainable—while providing valuable insights for public institutions, companies, and professionals involved in R&D and innovation.
First Step: International Survey

The first phase of Monitor-i will launch in November 2025 with an international survey aimed at companies, institutions, and professionals interested in applying technology monitoring and strategic, competitive, and market intelligence in their work.
The survey will be anonymous and conducted periodically, allowing the project to track the evolution of these practices over time, identify progress, and compare results across countries and sectors. This will create a global, up-to-date picture of how strategic information is being managed in the age of artificial intelligence.
Based on the survey results, Monitor-i will develop a georeferenced map of experiences, visually showing the maturity and application of these methodologies in organizations worldwide.
The project will also include advanced open-source analysis, using big data and AI tools to detect trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in the use of strategic information.
All of this will be integrated into an interactive virtual platform, serving as a hub of resources, best practices, and learning activities to help professionals, companies, and institutions strengthen their technology monitoring and strategic intelligence capabilities in the AI era.
